Summary

This handbook provides ready-to-implement case studies for teaching Sustainable Development Goals. Each case follows a structured format: goal statement, SDG focus, target objectives, problem description, discussion questions, real solutions, trainer notes, and useful links.

How to use

Trainers select cases matching their audience and objectives. Present the problem situation to participants. Facilitate group discussions using provided questions. Allow 10-20 minutes for small group work on specific tasks. Guide participants to analyze obstacles, identify stakeholders, and propose solutions. Use trainer notes for context and additional discussion points. Cases work for 2-3 hour workshops or longer programs. The handbook bridges theory and practice, showing how civil society organizations actually address SDG challenges in Eastern European contexts.

Teaching format tip

Book

Support sustained engagement with complex ideas through structured reflection and discussion. Students should develop deep understanding while connecting themes to personal and professional contexts. Use books to encourage contemplative learning and long-term intellectual development.

Case Study

Assign students specific analytical roles before presenting the case. Use structured questioning protocols to guide examination of stakeholder perspectives, decision points, and systemic factors. Have students work in small groups to develop competing recommendations, then debate solutions using evidence from the case. Conclude with reflection on reasoning processes and assumptions that influenced their analysis.
