Summary

  • The Supply Chain Explorer tool visualizes global supply chain dynamics through environmental justice and social sustainability indicators. The tool can serve as a source of interactive examples demonstrating cross-regional supply chain interdependencies.

How to use

  • It supports lectures on sustainable supply chain management by providing country-specific data on environmental impacts, labor conditions, and gender equality metrics. In workshops, students can use the interactive mapping features to explore supply chains across 44 countries and 163 sectors, complemented by examination of the tool’s case study layers. The generated visualizations and country-specific indicators can inform individual or group assignments, leading to deeper research into sector-specific or regional cases.
  • Faculty should be familiar with multi-regional input-output analysis methodology, the interpretation of environmental justice indicators, and the tool’s integrated sustainability metrics.  Upon its use, instructors can get familiarized with the tool through the site tutorial demonstrating the functioning of the tool and the available instructions.

Teaching format tip

Simulation/Serious Game

Establish clear learning objectives before gameplay and debrief systematically afterward. Students should document decision-making processes, unexpected outcomes, and strategic adaptations during play. Use multiple rounds to test different approaches and compare results. Connect game mechanics to real-world systems, helping students transfer insights from virtual to actual contexts.
