How to use

  • The first Exploration Module works as an introductory tool to the concept of cascading climate impacts. It is an online tool with playful elements and can be used as preparation for a lecture or in class.
  • In the social simulation session of the second Classroom Module, the students are actively involved in developing possible policy responses to cascading climate impacts.

Teaching format tip

Lesson/Teaching Plans

Engage students as co-facilitators and content contributors rather than passive recipients. Students should prepare discussion questions and share relevant experiences that enrich planned activities. Build flexibility for organic learning moments that emerge from student interests. Use plans as frameworks for shared inquiry rather than rigid scripts.

Simulation/Serious Game

Establish clear learning objectives before gameplay and debrief systematically afterward. Students should document decision-making processes, unexpected outcomes, and strategic adaptations during play. Use multiple rounds to test different approaches and compare results. Connect game mechanics to real-world systems, helping students transfer insights from virtual to actual contexts.

Workshop

Facilitate hands-on learning through active participation and collaborative problem-solving. Students should engage in practical skill development while working with peers on authentic challenges. Use workshops to combine individual learning with group dynamics and immediate application opportunities.
